Institution Info

The University is located in the heart of England, adjacent to the city of Coventry - 3 miles (5 kilometres) from the city centre - and on the border with Warwickshire. The University of Warwick is justifiably proud of the environment within which it is set - this is a great place to live, work, research and study.

The University is committed to environmental sustainability, and transport and travel to, from and around the University campus has a large role to play in this.

Warwick is a campus university with the main site being Central Campus and two smaller campuses, Westwood and Gibbet Hill within walking distance. The entrances to Gibbet Hill campus and the Central Campus are in Gibbet Hill Road, whilst the entrance to the Westwood site is in Kirby Corner Road.

Services & Facilities

Sports facilities
The main campus hosts a large leisure centre, comprising 25 m swimming pool, two sports halls, gymnasium, squash courts and rock-climbing facility. Elsewhere on campus are a number of other sports halls, outside tennis courts, 400 m athletics track, multi-purpose outdoor surfaces and cricket grounds. Sports facilities are being constantly expanded, following the commencement of Warwick Sport, a 2005 joint venture between the University and the Students' Union. Indoor tennis courts have recently been opened on the Westwood Campus sports venue and an Olympic-size swimming pool has been rumoured in the long-term, depending on Coventry City Council's priorities. Most of the University's sports facilities are open to the general public

Library

Warwick University Library is located in the middle of the main campus. It houses approximately 1,242,000 books and over 13 km of archives and manuscripts. It has recently been remodelled and now houses new services to support Research and Teaching practice and collaboration between departments. The Wolfson Research Exchange opened in October 2008 and provides collaboration spaces (both physical and virtual), seminar rooms, conference facilities and study areas for Postgraduate Research students. The Teaching Grid, which opened in 2008, is a flexible space which allows teaching staff to try out new technologies and techniques. The Library also runs the Learning Grid based in University House, which is a technology rich space for all members of the University to use and provides access to video conferencing facilities, smart boards, networked PCs and a collection of core text books

Student Life

The University of Warwick campus is a lively, cosmopolitan place with its own shops, banks, bars and restaurants - an exciting place to live and work with everything you could need close at hand.

There is a great sense of community at Warwick: The campus is home to students and staff from over 120 different countries and from all backgrounds, and is a great resource for the local community with excellent facilities such as Warwick Arts Centre and the University Sports Centre.

The campus is continually developing; in August 2008 Warwick Digital Laboratory was opened by Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and the indoor tennis centre at Westwood campus was opened in March 2008. Warwick Arts Centre, including Butterworth Hall, underwent a £6.9 million redevelopment that was completed in Spring 2009 and January 2010 saw the opening of the newly rebuilt Students' Union building.

The campus occupies 290 hectares on three adjacent sites: Central campus, Gibbet Hill campus, Westwood campus. There are lakes and woods, trees and landscaped gardens but whilst the campus has many green open spaces, inside the buildings ground-breaking research is taking place and academics and students are sharing their knowledge and experience.
