Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS-SGGW) is among the premier Polish institutions of higher learning. This is the oldest agricultural university in Poland and its history dates back to 1816. The University offers wide-ranging programs of study - from biological and technical, through medical, economics and humanities. WULS enrolls over 26,000 full time undergraduate students and students in PhD and other graduate programs. The teaching staff is over 1,100 strong, including 250 full professors. Research and education is carried out at 13 faculties (agriculture and biology, forestry, horticulture and landscape architecture, animal sciences, wood technology, engineering and environmental science, veterinary medicine, economic sciences, human nutrition and consumer sciences, production engineering, humanities, applied informatics and mathematics), 5 interfaculty studies (biotechnology, environmental protection, regional planning, commodity science, tourism and recreation), 1 MBA program in agribusiness management and several experiment stations around Warsaw. In order to fulfill the requirements of the Bologna Declaration with respect to curriculum development, the university has redesigned its course structure and introduced the two-tiered system in 2002. Academic programs are offered at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels, what contributes to improving comparability of studies and transparency at the international level. The number of foreign students is growing. Among other factors, this is possible because the University recognizes the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Currently, the University offers over 100 professional lecture courses in English as the language of instruction. This permits tailoring individual programs of study. Moreover, three MSc programs (Restoration and Management of Environment, Economics and Organization of Enterprises and Information Systems in Management) offer diploma specialization in English. WULS is well known and respected, both domestically and internationally. The University is a member of many prestigious international organizations such as the European Universities Association (EUA), International Association of Universities (IAU), International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), Euroleague for Life Sciences - ELLS. The University is active among Polish minorities in Lithuania, Ukraine and Belarus by offering modern education programs and highly qualified experts. Because of the University´s research and educational potential, the level of its research, modernity (modern buildings, well-equipped laboratories, students´ facilities located in the campus) and openness to the outside world, more and more research centers from around the world collaborate with WULS or declare their interest in establishing collaboration. International collaboration plays an important role in University activities by contributing to the expansion of research and standardization of teaching programs.
