The University of Oulu follows the Scandinavian and European university tradition with an excellent reputation in research and teaching and it is often ranked among the top international universities in the world. With six faculties, it is one of the largest universities in Finland, with a steadily growing number of international students and professors. The University encompasses eight fields of study: Humanities, Education, Economics and Business, Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Health Sciences, and Technology. In all, more than 70 different specialist disciplines are represented.
University of Oulu have defined four distinct research focus areas which are biosciences and health, information technology, cultural interaction and identity and environment, natural resources and materials. University of Oulu campus offers students and staff free wireless internet access and a variety of different ICT facilities. Computer labs and classrooms provide students with Windows, Linux and Macintosh workstations equipped with latest software and programmes. ICT facilities and services are designed to help you achieve best results in your studies and research. The Finnish library system is a paradise for students and bookworms. At the university libraries textbooks and course materials, scientific publications, bibliographies and reference works are all at your disposal. All students get a library card free of charge. You may obtain the desired material through inter-library loan from elsewhere in Finland and worldwide.
Health services
Student health services are located on the Linnanmaa campus. Health services include medical, mental, and dental treatment. Most services are free of charge while some incur a nominal fee.
Student organisations
Student organisations organise cultural activities, sporting events, parties, and trips in Finland. These study-field specific organisations have internationally experienced members with first-hand knowledge to share. In addition, there are two solely international university-wide student organisations focusing on issues in international education. Members involved in these organisations are – naturally – both exchange students and international degree students.
