£17m new home for sport and health sciences

We have opened a £17m sport and health sciences building. The showpiece dental education and sports therapy complex provides a state-of-the-art learning environment for students studying sports therapy and dental nursing and technology.

Sport on campus is centered in our Olympia sports complex, which has a large sports hall for major tournaments - 500 spectator capacity.

Middlesbrough Empire is famous for its club nights and live indie gigs.

Rock, pop and comedy

For mainstream rock and pop there's Middlesbrough Town Hall - everything from Oasis, and James to Mel C. Top comedy names include Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle and Dara O'Briain.

Night of clubs

Tees Valley is a top events destination. In 2010 we hosted the Tall Ships races. And we have some of the top festivals in the uk.

Middlesbrough Music Live is one of the biggest free festivals in the UK. The Thrills, Razorlight and Editors have all made appearances.

Stockton International Riverside Festival is a spectacular annual event which showcases performers from all over the world and is one of the UK's most dazzling street festivals.

Middlesbrough Mela celebrates Asian culture with music, dance and food.

Animex our own major international festival highlights our impressive reputation for computing and animation. It attracts animators and games developers from around the world.

Folklore festivals - the area boasts three - at Billingham, Stockton and Saltburn and Hartlepool's maritime festival.

The Dorman Museum on Linthorpe Road has had a £3m makeover and its varied collections are now in themed, interactive galleries.

The Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Stewart Park explores the life and times of Middlesbrough's most famous son and his voyages of discovery.

Preston Hall Museum stands on over 100 acres of magnificent parkland. You can explore domestic life of the past and stroll along a re-created Victorian street.
