The Fachhochschule Deggendorf is a newly founded, modern University of Applied Sciences situated in Lower Bavaria, the south-eastern part of Germany. The city of Deggendorf is relatively small (with about 35.000 inhabitants), but located conveniently on the motorway crossing A92/A3, next to the Danube river and nearby the Bavarian Forest. The city and its surroundings present numerous possibilities for skiing and sightseeing. There is much to see and to do round Deggendorf.
Getting to know your way around the campus is fairly easy as all of the buildings of the Deggendorf University are constructed around a central atrium, joined together in a parkland site just outside the city centre, right next to the Danube river.

Art, culture and love of life
Deggendorf can name not only topography in its list of highlights.
Whether theatre, concerts, cabaret or exhibitions: attention is given to the cultural life which occurs between the River Danube and the Bavarian Forest. When the city sends out invitations to a city festival, 100,000 visitors come to celebrate. The traditional Deggendorf Folksfest and Spring Festival attracts many vistiors from near and far.
Conventions and conferences
The Deggendorf City Convention Center offers excellent facilities, along with an extraordinary cultural program. Events range from theater, musicals, classical music, operettas, folkmusic to jazz, rock and pop, cabaret and children's theatre. Speaking of children: Deggendorf has its own special city map for children which shows the nicest playgrounds and adventure play areas in the city.
Shopping and Dining
Because of its many shops, both large and small, traditional and modern, Deggendorf has become an especially popular town for shopping. The inner city with its Old Town quarter and the new pedestrian zone on the Upper Town Square turns a city stroll into a special experience. The quality of food which a city's gastronomy establishments offers comes from its guests who, in our case, have learned quickly to appreciate what is available in Deggendorf. "Good food and good drink keep body and soul together" is an old German saying: from hearty Bavarian food to fine food which tickles the palate - in Deggendorf it is possible to find everything.
There is a special quarter in Deggendorf with four cultural highlights: "Culture x Four". The City Museum and the Museum of Handicrafts offer an informative cross-selection and lively exploration through local history with an original apothecary shop from the Biedermeier period.
The Kapuzinerstadl, a church from a former monastery, offers international art shows and is also a stage for cabaret and concerts. The City Library, a brilliant example of modern architecture is one of the best in the Free State of Bavaria.
Deggendorf's special location
Deggendorf is an economic center in southeast Bavaria. The city is the site for companies who have contacts with the rest of the world. High-tech "made in Deggendorf" is a special trademark and no mere slogan, but rather reality. The inland free port is a special factor adding to the city's attractive location. Along with Duisburg, it is unique in Germany. Since 1994 the city has also had the University of Applied Science whose positive impact will continually be felt in many areas in the future.
