The first semester aims to advance the students´ theoretical knowledge within management control and economics as well as in philosophical, ethical and environmental themes. In the second and third semesters the program focus on different aspects of the business area and allow the students to focus on their chosen specialisation. The programs are completed by writing a master thesis.
Specialisation courses are given in the areas of:
* International Business and Marketing
* Finance and Investments
* Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management
* Logistics and Transport
* Ecological Economy
* Management Control
The first semester aims to advance the theoretical knowledge. The emphasis will be on introducing newer and more complex theories. There will also be an introduction to relevant philosophical, ethical and environmental themes.
The compulsory units are all taught in english or both norwegian and english. A selection of the optional courses (minors and majors) will also be offered in english.
In the second semester students choose between various minors (advanced elective courses). This gives an opportunity to study subjects of special interest to individual students.
In the third semester the students concentrate on their chosen specialisation. They also lay the foundation for the masters thesis in the compulsory course focusing on scientific theory and the method as chosen by the individual students to be used in their thesis.
Only students that have successfully passed the courses in the first year of the program may continue to the second year, the minimum requirement is that 2 of the compulsory and 2 of the elective courses are passed.
The fourth semester is spent writing and completing the thesis.
Specialisation courses (third semester) are given in the areas of:
* International business
* Finance and investments
* Entrepreneurship and innovation management
* Logistics and transport
* Ecological economy
* Management control
Units offered will vary from year to year depending on available resources and student interest. A limited selection of specialisation courses will be taught in English.
Programme structure
The Master of Science is a full time program, with weekly lessons given from late August till May and exams in November/December and May/June.
Form of assessment
Most units have written exams, some also require papers to be submitted and attendance at seminars.
Evaluation
Students are actively involved in the evaluation of the program. For most units student representatives are elected - they have a specific responsibility for communication between the student group and the professors and administrative staff. Web based evaluation forms are also used.
Admission is based on three or four years of study (Bachelor or equivalent) in business/management- related fields, with certain requirements concerning relevant courses. The following topics must be covered as part of the undergraduate study:
* Business Analysis, 55 ECTScredits
* Economics, 15 - 20 ECTS credits
* Method, 15 - 20 ECTS credits
