ESLI partners with universities in the U.S. and Canada to offer students premiere language instruction and university preparation in order to achieve full admission to their field of study. ESLI partner universities offer conditional admission to students which means that students who complete the ESLI language program do not have to take the TOEFL or IELTS exam.

ESLI offers conditional admission to hundreds of degree programs at the associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels.  Scholarship opportunities are also available for qualifying students.

Students completing the M.S. in Geoscience degree will learn the concepts and skills necessary to qualify for a variety of career opportunities that require a solid foundation in geospatial thinking and analysis. This program is offered by Western Kentucky University.

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Overall undergraduate GPA , a minimum of 3.0 or above
  • Minimum of 18 hours of science (preferably Geoscience) courses in the undergraduate level
  • A one-to-two page statement of research goals included in the application with a copy to the Department Head
  • Written evidence (Email is acceptable) of an agreement from a research faculty member willing to supervise the applicant's proposed thesis research project
  • Passing grade (C or above) in appropriate undergraduate coursework to support the thesis research program
  • Student applying for graduate assistantship must have a written support from a research faculty member prior to submitting an application

Graduate Student Research Grant

All WKU graduate students are welcome to apply for these grants to be used on acquiring materials and assistance for creative scholarship. Students may apply for no more than three Student Research Grants per degree totaling $750.
