The Masters award in mental health has evolved to meet the growing demands of people who wish to combine continuing professional development with further academic study. The award has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to share professional knowledge and insight in a multi-professional forum, reflecting on the place of their professional expertise and practice in relation to other disciplines contributing to healthcare.
Career opportunities
It is important to note that this course will not provide a clinical vocational qualification, it will however, offer enhanced career opportunities in management, education and advanced clinical work e.g. consultancy and research. This will be through the further development of transferable skills such as critical thinking, ethical decision making, evidenced-based practice, and greater awareness of the implications of policy developments for health and social care practice.

It is envisaged that students wishing to access this award will have either successfully completed a related undergraduate programme or may be from a health or social care background and be wishing to engage in further personal or professional development. Applicants without a good Honours degree may be considered through the special admissions procedure.
