The University of Geneva is the only Swiss university to offer a full course of study in Modern Greek. The teaching focuses mainly on the current Greek language, spoken and written. It also helps to be familiar with the history, culture and literature of Greece since the fall of Constantinople to the present day. Autonomous discipline whose primary object is contemporary Greece, Modern Greek can also be designed as an extension of the study of ancient and Byzantine Greek.

During the online application process, applicants with a foreign degree will be charged an administrative fee of 65 CHF, to be deducted from the first-semester tuition fees.

Before starting a programme, you need to have a basic knowledge of the language. Find courses on Language Learning Portal.
1. candidates for the Faculty must meet the University's general enrollment conditions
2. they must also hold a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, referred to below as BA, or a degree considered equivalent by the Dean of the Faculty
3. candidates who hold a diploma or degree equivalent to at least 180 credits from another Faculty of arts or university may be admitted to the Faculty for an MA programme; they may request that their additional credits be treated as equivalents
4. candidates for a Master of Arts/MA in disciplines requiring specific expertise for a BA may be required to do supplementary studies before being admitted.
No work experience is required.
