The Bilingual Master of Laws is a joint programme with the Law Faculty of the University of Basel. It combines language skills and legal knowledge and enables students to obtain a degree from two Swiss universities. Students enrol either in Geneva or Basel and take courses at both universities (min. 30 ECTS credits from each).

Bilingual curriculum is available in the following programmes

  • Master of Law (Freies Masterstudium)
  • Thematic programmes
    • International and European law (Transnationales Recht)
    • Public right of action (Verwaltungsrecht)
    • Civil and criminal law (Generalis)
    • Economic law (Wirtschaftsrecht)

Bilingual Thematic Master of Laws

In each of the two law faculties, at least 30 credits

Courses relating to the chosen theme, at least 30 credits

Dissertation and seminar, 22 credits

The dissertation is written as part of a seminar; however, students may write their dissertation outside the seminar (16 credits) and supplement it with an additional elective (6 credits).

Mobility

Students may earn up to 30 of the 90 ECTS credits from a university approved by the Law Faculty.

Career opportunities

Private or public sector jurist, lawyer, solicitor, judge, legal advisor in government or non-governmental organisations, etc.

A Bachelor of Law from a Swiss university or an equivalent foreign law degree.

Level of French required

Eliminatory general test for non-Francophones with the exception of the following cases:
