Description

The Master's degree in Proteomics and Bioinformatics is jointly organised by the Faculties of Medicine and Sciences and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. This master proposes theoretical courses, wet-lab hands-on experience and bioinformatics practical work to study proteomes. A proteome is the set of proteins of one organism expressed by the genome in a given moment in time and in a given cell type. The time analysis of interactions and modifications of proteins coded by the genes provides supplementary information about their functions, biological mechanisms and in particular about diseases. Now being a key element of the post-genomic era, proteomics is expanding at an amazing fast pace. It benefits from the evolution and automation of biochemical techniques and informatics analysis and the increasing interest from the pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
The objective of this Master's degree is to give students a complete education on methods and techniques in proteomics and bioinformatics. Once graduated, the students should be capable of producing, analysing and interpreting proteomic data. They will acquire the necessary knowledge to develop and create bioinformatics tools, databases and web sites.

Course structure: obligatory courses, optional courses, practical work, obligatory internship.

Length of programme: 3 semesters
ECTS credits: 90
