Aims and objectives

The aim of the Advanced Neonatal Practice programme is to provide a high-quality postgraduate education that will inform and enhance the student’s professional function and enable him or her to contribute more effectively in the delivery of advanced neonatal practice. The Programme should enable students to:

Academic Requirements

Entry is open to neonatal nurses/midwives who hold a recognised neonatal qualification and have at least 4 years experience in the neonatal specialty. Other health professionals are eligible for entry to modules provided they work within a neonatal setting where they will be able to achieve the relevant learning outcomes.

The support of their manager is essential, to ensure that applicants are given time and opportunity to gain the requisite experience and skills. Applicants should be able to articulate a rationale for expanding their neonatal role and demonstrate clear lines of accountability for this role within their team.

Normally applicants should possess a 2:1 honours degree or above, however candidates will also be considered whose profile of academic and professional achievement demonstrates ability to study at masters level. Additionally evidence of recent academic study at degree level (normally in the last five years) is required.

Studentship for international postgraduate students

£2,500 per annum for postgraduate taught programmes with standard fees. An additional £1,000 for students from low and lower middle income countries.
