Jointly run by the University of Savoie (France), the University of Trento (Italy), the University of Kassel (Germany) and the University of León (Spain), the European Master in Business Studies (EMBS) is a two-year full-time Master’s degree in Management officially integrated in the new European Bologna system of higher education.

The European Master in Business Studies (EMBS) has been developed in order to offer to European as well as to non-European students a unique opportunity of learning how to do business in Europe effectively. Apart from studying fundamentals of Management and Sales & Marketing on a European scale, students will learn “on site” the multicultural differences by working in groups of different nationalities and by spending one semester in each University of the consortium. The EMBS is composed of four semesters in four different European countries (Trento/Italy, Annecy/France, Kassel/Germany and León/Spain), as explained in the following scheme:

  • 1st semester: University of Trento (Italy)
  • 2nd semester: University of Savoie Mont Blanc (France)
  • 3rd semester: University of Kassel (Germany)
  • 4th semester: University of Leon (Spain)

The “European Master in Business Studies” degree awarded at the end of the programme corresponds to the following four national degrees:

- In the Italian University system, to a “Laurea Magistrale - CLASSE LM77 Lauree Magistrali in Scienze Economico-Aziendali”;

- In the French University system, to a “Master en Droit Economie Gestion”;

- In the German University system, to a “Master of Arts”;

- In the Spanish University system, to a “Master Universitario Europeo en Dirección de Empresas”.

EMBS has been accredited in the four countries by well-established bodies: Germany: ZeVA; Italy: Italian Ministry for Instruction, Higher Education and Research-MIUR; Spain: ACSUCYL; France: Ministry of Higher Education and Research/HCERES (French agency evaluating HEIs and research centres)/Agence Europe Education Formation France (French Erasmus agency).

Programme Structure

Students admitted to the EMBS will spend a semester in each participating university in the following order:

  • 1st year of Master

-          Semester 1 in Trento (Italy)

-          Semester 2 in Annecy (France)

  • 2nd year of Master

-          Semester 3 in Kassel (Germany)

-          Semester 4 in León (Spain)

  • 3 months internship/placement in a foreign country (not in their native country) at the end of the fourth semester
  • Final Master Thesis to be presented at the end of the third semester

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 5.5

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The minimum IELTS score requirement refers to which Overall Band Score you received, which is your combined average score. Read more about IELTS.

  • Minimum required score (Grade B2): 160

    The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

    Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.

  • Minimum required score: 560

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). The writing part of this test is scored separately on a scale of 0-6. Read more about TOEFL (PBT).

Academic Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (at least amounting to 6 semesters and 180 ECTS) in Economics, Management or Business Studies or other study backgrounds (e.g. Social Sciences, Languages, Engineering) with a focus on Economics & Management. 50% or more of your Bachelor studies have to be done in the Economic/Business field. Applicants who do not yet have their Bachelor’s certificate can still apply for the EMBS master's program provided they are able to submit their certificate no later than November 2017. Such applicants will not be admitted unconditionally to the program, but may be “conditionally admitted” as long as the certificate remains outstanding.

English Language Requirements:

  • FCE score: B2

Tuition Fee Per Year

  • EUR 3500 International
  • EUR 3500 EU/EEA

EMBS participation fees are about € 3500 per year: € 2500 EMBS tuition fee plus about 250/300 euro/year to be paid to each partner university.

It is a condition of student's enrollment that they have sufficient financial resources to pay for their program of study. Self-paying students must provide evidence of their ability to cover tuition fees because the EMBS programme does not offer any full scholarship. Sponsored students must provide evidence of their sponsorship.

EMBS students have the possibility to be supported through grants and scholarships offered by the EMBS partner Universities. However, be aware of the fact that grants and scholarships will not afford students to live in Europe as they do not fully cover the cost of attending the EMBS program (fees, accommodation, books, travel, etc.).

StudyPortals Tip: Students can search online for independent or external scholarships that can help fund their studies. Check the scholarships to see whether you are eligible to apply. Many scholarships are either merit-based or needs-based.
