The College of Kinesiology Graduate Program is prominent in several research areas at both the national and international level. Contributing to this prominence is the strength of individual faculty research programs and the continued mentorship and graduation of excellent students.

About

Our students are highly successful in attaining Tri-Council awards, University Graduate scholarships, and present their work regularly at major conferences, often within their first year. The focus of the program is on research and scholarly activity, and students are actively encouraged to publish their research while pursuing their degree. The program supports about 50 graduate students across the different areas.

The College of Kinesiology Graduate Program offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in diverse areas including behavioural science, biomechanics, bone research, functional and exercise physiology, motor learning and control, and pedagogy. Our students have access to office and lab space, work in a collaborative atmosphere, and have opportunities to gain research and teaching experience, participate in community outreach initiatives, volunteer activities and social events. Immersed in a research rich environment, our students are highly successful in terms of Tri-Council awards and publications and present their work regularly at major conferences, often within their first year.

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 6.5

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.   • Minimum required score: 550

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).   • Minimum required score: 80

    The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Academic Requirements

Admission Requirements

  • a four-year honours degree, or equivalent, from a recognized college or university in an academic discipline relevant to the proposed field of study, or a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree
  • a cumulative weighted average of at least a 70% (U of S grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (i.e. 60 credit units)
