Programme duration: 2 years

The design approach is interdisciplinary and provides participants with actionable knowledge in different design fields (from product to service, from space to interaction), an extended design toolkit, basics of project management, supply chain management, sustainability, anthropology and ethnography, communications and media.

Career opportunities are within the traditional design industry, as well as in service design, in retail design, in brand design, in art direction, in trend analysis, in UX research and design. PSSD students have the possibility to apply for the double degree programme at Tongji University (Shanghai) or for the internal double degree with Management Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.

The programme is taught in English.

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 6

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.   • Minimum required score (Grade C): 180

    The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

    Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.

  • Minimum required score (Grade B): 173

    The FCE, or First Certificate in English, a certificate given for students who take the Cambridge English: First exam. To receive the certificate, test-takers must score between 122 and 190 on the Cambridge English: First test. Read more about FCE.

  • Minimum required score: 547

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).   • Minimum required score: 78

    The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Academic Requirements

Students holding a Bachelor of Art or a Bachelor degree in Design or a relevant post-graduate work experience with design background are eligible for application. The candidate is required to provide a portfolio and an English proficiency certificate.

Tuition Fee Per Year

Tuition fees for EU students range from about 900 to about 3,900€ per year.

Tuition fees for non EU students are about € 3,900 per year.

Funding

Thanks to the cooperation with public and private partners, every year Politecnico di Milano offers a number of merit based scholarships to the most talented international candidates admitted to a Master of Science programme. There is no additional application to fill for merit-based scholarships. Eligible students will be automatically considered after admission.

Students obtaining a scholarship will have to pay only an administrative fee of about €200. Merit-based scholarships are available for students applying to the 1st or 2nd semester.
