The Master in Optimization at the University of Bergen helps students understand the needs of different industries and improve their key business processes and data programs. The Master’s degree offers courses in Algorithms and Linear Programming, among other optional courses.

The optimization group has been evaluated by the Research Council of Norway as "Excellent" with international starts in optimization and a unique group in Norway. The group also collaborates with the Department of Economics at the University of Bergen

The Degree

The master's programme leads to the degree Master of Science in Informatics. It is a two year programme (120 ECTS credits).

The Informatics-Optimization programme is offered by the University of Bergen.

Programme Structure

A master's programme in optimisation consists of an individual research project (master's thesis) of 60 ECTS credits, and courses or special topics of 60 ECTS credits. Some of the courses are compulsory within the specialisations. The other courses will be chosen in agreement with the academic supervisor.

The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).     The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Admission Requirements

A first degree (bachelor's degree) of three or four years duration from an approved institution of higher education, as well as proficiency in the English language. Your bachelor's degree must include courses equalling 20 ECTS of mathematics and 60 ECTS of informatics.
