The Master of Science in European Forestry Erasmus Mundus (MSc EF) is a Master's degree programme provided by a consortium of seven well known European universities. The MSc EF is an international double-degree programme, which has been acknowledged by the European Commission as a top quality European MSc under the Erasmus Mundus programme.
The focus of the programme is on the international dimensions of forest resource management and utilisation, supported by a sound understanding of ecological conditions and their dynamics in Europe.
The international environment of the MSc EF invites you to study and to meet friends from all over the world. In addition to receiving a high quality education, you will enjoy the cultural and recreational opportunities of many European cities and nature.
The curriculum of the new MSc European Forestry program is divided into 8 modules, of which 6 modules are studied during the first study year, and two modules during the second study year.The studies of the first academic year consist of the following courses:
MODULE 1 - Trends in European Forestry
MODULE 2 - Sustainable Forest Management in Europe
* Academic skills in Forest Sciences
* Economics of Multiple-use Forestry
* Advanced Course in Forest Ecology and Biodiversity
* Forest Resource Assessment, Management and Planning
* Silvicultural Management of Forests for Timber Production and Other Ecosystem Services
* Forest Governance and Environmental Policy
* Research Methodology in Forest Sciences
MODULE 3 - Elective Courses
MODULE 4 - Applied Period in Forest Institutions -
MODULE 5 - European Forestry Field Course
MODULE 6 - Multifunctional Forestry in Mountain Regions
During the second year, the students have the chance to specialise in their fields of interest by taking obligatory and elective courses and carrying out the master's thesis in one or two of the consortium universities.

MODULE 8 - Master's thesis
In order to be eligible to apply to MSc European Forestry you must have a reasonable background in forest management / forest science / forestry. You do not need to have a BSc in forestry but you must have studied forestry subjects for your degree. For example, if you have a BSc degree in Nature Conservation with a minor in forest management you are eligible to apply.
Since 2004, MSc European Forestry programme has had the privilige to award generous Erasmus Mundus scholarships of 48,000 and 20,000 to students on a competitive basis.
The Erasmus Mundus scholar grants of 2,400 - 7,200 euro are available for merited academics from all over the world. Students cannot apply for scholar grants.
