The MEd (School Guidance and Counselling) degree is designed to advance the professional development of school Guidance Counsellors and builds on the Postgraduate Diploma in School Guidance and Counselling (PGDSGC). This one-year programme involves participation in regular research-support seminars and consultation with supervisors towards the completion of a thesis of 25,000 words.

This MEd SGC builds on the PGDSGC (Post Graduate Diploma in School Guidance and Counselling) and aims to advance school-based Guidance Counsellors professional development.

The MEd School Guidance and Counselling is assessed through the thesis only.

Duration: 1 year Part-time

Requirements

Entry is restricted to applicants who have successfully completed all courses in the one-year Postgraduate Diploma in School Guidance and Counselling (PGDSGC) or equivalent, with a grade of at least Second Class Honours, grade 1 standard.

Applicants are expected to submit a thesis proposal of no less than 2,500 words that identifies a research issue, situates the problem in scholarly literature(s), and proposes a plan of research. This proposal should demonstrate the applicants capacity to engage with the research and to bring the proposal to completion.

2. Taught Masters Bursaries
For September 2013, 60 Taught Masters Bursaries consisting of 2,000 are open to all students who have completed the final year of their BSc or BA Honours Degree since 2007, (including those graduating this summer) and who have been in receipt of County or City Council Higher Education Grant funding. The Bursaries will be awarded to highly qualified students accepted onto a Taught Masters programme at NUI Maynooth commencing in September 2013. Please read the Terms and Conditions document below carefully before completing the application form. Closing date for applications is July 5th 2013

3. Taught Masters Alumni Scholarships
New for 2013, the Alumni Office has announced Alumni Scholarships for Postgraduate study in the University this year. The scholarships will provide 3 graduates of NUI Maynooth (including the graduating class of 2013) with a 5,000 scholarship towards fees for a Taught Masters programme at NUI Maynooth in September 2013. Please read the Terms and Conditions document below carefully before completing the application form. Closing date for applications is July 12th 2013
