Today, culture and the arts are a full-fledged economic sector. It requires special know-how and expert knowledge. Over the past two decades, cultural activities and institutions have experienced dramatic growth. Careers in the field have undergone a complete transformation in both the private and public sectors.
The hallmarks of this transformation include new ways of assessing the value of cultural products, appreciating the diversification of sources for financing, understanding new methods of increasing public appeal, and most notably, a heightened emphasis on budgetary priorities.
In this context of financial rationalisation, a strong need has developed for a reassessment of the sector. The majority of book publishing, news, multimedia, theatre, television and cinema is produced by multinationals that now look for “enlightened” managers. Companies that produce and disseminate cultural goods and activities strive to recruit high-level managers who are capable of developing their activities and creating and overseeing cultural production.
A trailblazer in the arts and culture management arena, this Specialized Master offers the additional advantage of a double-degree: the Specialized Master degree from ESCP Europe (conferred by the French “Conférence des Grandes Ecoles”), and the Master di II livello of the Università Ca’Foscari Venezia.
Key features and Dates
The ESCP Europe Specialised Masters (MS) are professional-oriented programmes in specific management areas designed for postgraduates with a clear career goal and lead to a specialisation or double skill in response to corporate demand for highly qualified managers.
The Specialised Master is a one-year full-time academic programme designed for students holding a first master’s-level academic or professional degree in engineering, business, architecture, medicine, law, pharmacology, political science, the arts, or any other graduate degree. Also holders of a Bachelor degree with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience are welcomed to apply.
The curriculum comprises six months of full-time coursework including an international seminar, followed by a company placement lasting at least four months and the completion of a professional thesis to be remitted at the end of the programme. Courses are taught in English and the national language of our respective campuses.
Building on the expertise of ESCP Europe and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the Specialized Master in Management of Cultural and Artistic Activities provides participants with a solid base of applied management concepts and skills in fields related to culture and the arts.
This full-time curriculum is spread over one year divided into 3 terms as follows:
Classes are taught in Italian, English and French
The Specialized Master is backed by a sponsorship committee including:
Comprised of academics and business professionals, the Academic Committee meets regularly to assess the Sponsorship Committee’s activities. In addition, its members have an advising role for participating students. Close involvement helps ensure ongoing evaluation of the programme’s relevance and contents. Committee members also provide practical expertise for overseeing research projects, make presentations on specialised topics, and assist students with their preparation for entry into the business world.
The courses address 10 subject areas:

Students have to do an internship for a minimum of 4 months in order to graduate (however the average length of internships is 6 months). Although the salary offered can vary, most students get paid between €400 and €1,800 per month during their internships.
A work permit is not required since the internship is a compulsory part of the curriculum. International students are therefore allowed to work with their student residence permit.
The internship is a substantial source of funding for the Specialized Master’s Programs.
3. Campus jobs
Many on-campus jobs are available (clerical work, research or other) and paid by the hour (€8 per hour).
4. Bank loans
You may apply for a bank loan to finance your studies. Many banks offer student loans at attractive rates, with deferred pay back. French banks request that you provide a guarantor in France. If you have no relative in France, we therefore recommend that you apply for a loan from a bank in your own country. Four Paris banks are known to grant loans to ESCP Europe students: BNP Paribas, BRED, LCL and Société Générale.
5. Crédit Agricole / MAEE Scholarship
Crédit Agricole/MAEE scholarship programmes may be granted to foreign students from Hong Kong (China), Italy and Poland.
Dual-citizenship candidates holding French nationality are not eligible. Important: Proficiency in French is mandatory. Application form.
