This programme is ideal for you if you wish to work on marketing problems to support decision making in organisations. On the programme, we emphasise the practical analytical aspects of marketing problems as well as the fundamentals of management science and marketing.
There is a large demand for business and market analysts with good modelling skills, particularly in retailing and marketing. Graduates from this course can expect to work as market analysts, marketing analysts, business consultants, business analysts, database managers and marketing researchers.
Who is it for?
You should have, or be expecting, a first degree that includes some mathematics and statistics; for example, science, engineering, business studies or economics, as well as mathematics or statistics.
What will I study?
The Masters in Management Science and Marketing Analytics is a flexible degree scheme in which you choose subjects that interest you and also attend compulsory core modules. The programme prepares you to use your analytical skills in marketing. You will develop marketing and business modelling skills in SAS, SPSS and Excel, and will cover topics such as forecasting, market research and data-based analysis, customer relationship management and data mining. Overall, this will give you a grounding in a range of marketing analytics and predictive analytics techniques.
Will it prepare me for work?
The taught element of the programme includes modules that help you to improve your professional skills as well as your analytical abilities. The taught modules end in May and are followed by a significant real-life project that runs until mid-September. In this, you will develop professional skills by working for 16 weeks as a consultant to one of our client companies, whilst being supervised by a member of staff. This is an excellent preparation for the world of work. Students on the MSc in Management Science and Marketing Analytics have, in the past, written dissertations based on projects with organisations such as Tesco, ITV, BT, Barclaycard, GE Money and Thames Water.
What about further study?
The MSc Management Science and Marketing Analytics can also serve as a springboard for further study for a PhD.
The MSc in Management Science and Marketing Analytics consists of compulsory and optional modules, plus a project. The compulsory modules ensure that you have a firm grounding in important subjects. The wide range of optional modules allows you to specialise in subjects that particularly interest you.

The entry requirement for the MSc in Operational Research and Management Science, the MSc in Management Science and Market Analysis and the MSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is normally a first or good second class honours degree in a quantitative subject. Students with first degrees in mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering and management science are regularly admitted, and applicants from other disciplines who can show evidence of quantitative problem solving skills are encouraged to apply.
English language requirements
Studying at Masters level demands a high level of fluency in written and spoken language, and excellent comprehension. For this reason, non-native speakers of English are normally asked to demonstrate their English language competence by taking one of the internationally recognised tests below.
Our minimum language requirements for postgraduate study at LUMS are:
IELTS 7.0, with at least 6.0 in each element
Pearson Academic (PTE) 70, with at least 55 in each element
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) grade C
ToEFL iBT 100 (with minimum 22 in each skill)
