The information on this page relates to the four design programmes:
* Industrial Design and Technology
* Design and Innovation for Sustainability
* Interaction Design
* Product Design in Business
These programmes offer four named routes designed to improve the effectiveness of designers within industry and to enable both recent graduates and current practitioners to advance core design knowledge and specialist skills to a higher level.
These programmes aim to develop further students critical awareness of major issues in design practice, hence increasing their value to current and potential employers. They will develop students skills in producing a balanced portfolio of high quality designs and innovative thinking which will enable them to deal with complex and inter-related issues both analytically and creatively.
The collection of modules offered enables students to develop skills and competencies in the creative and/or analytical aspects of design whilst working with a diverse range of people. It is the balance and focus of these skills and competencies that characterise the different named programmes.
The programmes can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis.
Compulsory Modules
On each route, students study five compulsory modules, two of which are route-specific. The three compulsory modules common to all programmes are:
Semester 1
* Design Practice
* Research Methods for Design Ergonomics
Semester 2
* Major Project Research and Feasibility Route-specific
Compulsory modules: Design & Innovation for Sustainability
Semester 1
* Sustainable Design
Semester 2
* Advanced Methods & Tools for Sustainable Design
* Design for sustainable behaviour
* Sustainable Design Major Project

A design or engineering background is not essential, we encourage applicants from a wide range of disciplines who have an interest in innovative sustainable design and the desire to think differently about how to achieve it.

Loughborough Sports Scholarships
We aim to provide our sports scholars with first class coaching, sports science and sports medicine support, access to extensive indoor and outdoor training and competition facilities, a life skills programme, a high level of support and an annual cash award.
Our elite sports scholarships offer exceptional students targeting the 2012 Olympics or the 2014 Commonwealth Games all of the above along with a contribution of up to £3,000 towards tuition fees, facility membership (where applicable) and free parking on campus.

Music Tuition and Scholarships
The Music Centre offers subsidised music tuition in a range of instruments or for voice selected via open auditions. Those selected receive thirty minutes tuition per week for twenty weeks. The cost of this would be £250, but via the scheme, students only pay a £50 registration fee.
You must register your interest for the tuition at the start of each academic year. The University also offers up to three competitive music scholarships each year selected by an independent panel of distinguished musicians.
These are awards of £500 and the scholars are expected to give a recital in the Spring. For further information contact a.beavis-harrison@lboro.ac.uk or telephone +44 (0)1509 222960
Prizes
University and departmental prizes and bursaries are awarded in many departments to postgraduate students who perform exceptionally well in their work or who contribute to the development of cooperation between the University and the local community.
Prizes awarded to postgraduate students currently include the prestigious Loughborough University Graduate School Prizes each worth £400, and two John Guest Memorial Travelling Scholarships, each valued at £500, awarded to research students to give them the opportunity to extend their knowledge of their subject, either within this country or overseas.
Access to Learning Fund (ALF)
The ALF is available to UK postgraduate (taught and research) students studying at least 50% of a full-time course who experience unanticipated and serious financial difficulties. To qualify, students must meet the same residence conditions as for student loans.
Postgraduate Taught Care Leavers Bursary
Care leavers from the UK who have recently graduated and want to progress onto full-time postgraduate study may be eligible for a bursary worth up to £2,660 which is intended for assistance with the cost of their study.
