Description
Employment is central to our lives. For most of us it is not just a source of income, it shapes whom we think we are.Employment studies links the sociology of work to industrial relations, human resource management and public policy. The Irish labour market is interwoven with that of Europe. This new graduate programme studies Irish employment policy with a strong focus on the European dimension.
The postgraduate diploma (PGradDip) and the MSc are designed for students whose current or planned career deals with employment issues whether in the private or public sectors.The MSc will equip students with the necessary research skills which are increasingly required for a contemporary career, be it in market research, public policy or academia.
The programme begins in September of each year.The MSc is a whole year course: there are two teaching semesters (September -December and January-May) with an individual dissertation during the summer. The PGradDip lasts for the two teaching semesters only. Both MSc and PGradDip can be taken part time over two academic years.

Programme Content - MScIn the first semester all students take three mandatory modules:
* Work and employment in Europe
* Industrial relations and employment policy in Europe
* Research design and methods in employment studies
In the second semester students take six modules. They take at least four elective employment policy modules:
* Inequality and discrimination at the workplace
* Migration and the European labour market
* Active labour market policies in Europe
* Quality of work and employment in Europe
* Employment policy in Ireland
Students also take at least two research modules:
* Survey data analysis in employment studies
* Applied regression analyses in employment and migration studies
* Qualitative research methods in employment studies
Students proceeding to the MSc. complete an individual dissertation.

Requirements
Entry to the MSc in European Employment Studies is normally restricted to graduates who have achieved an upper second class honour degree, or higher from an established university. GPA scores of at least 3.2 out of 4, or equivalent, will be expected from international applicants.
A background in a social science will be an advantage but not a necessity. In exceptional cases, applicants without a primary degree (or an upper second class degree or higher) may be accepted directly into the programme if they can demonstrate that they possess the equivalent of a good first degree.
All applicants whose first language is not English and who have not been educated through the medium of English must present one of the following qualifications in the English language:
* IELTS: Grade 6.5
* TOEFL: 88 - iBT, 230 - Computer based, 570 - paper based
* Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English: Grade C
* Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: Grade C
