In this Strategic Finance and Business Analytics Master's Programme at Lappeenranta University of Technology you will study the disciplines of strategic finance and business analytics. You will acquire interesting and relevant skills enabling you to work in an international business environment in various management positions.


Modern financial management requires more and more knowledge about the tools and techniques of business analytics. A combination of strategic finance and business analytics is required to meet the needs of forward-going businesses wanting to make fact-based decisions in a competitive business landscape.

The Strategic Finance and Business Analytics programme is offered by the Lappeenranta University of Technology.

The content of the programme is based on the theories and concepts of financial economics and corporate finance. You will acquire practical decision-making skills and analytics know-how that will help you to build a sound base for a career in financial management.

Programme Structure

The programme includes core and specialisation studies in finance, minor studies in business analytics, and language studies.

Core studies (54 ECTS credits) include courses on strategic and corporate finance topics including financial management, banking and insurance finance, financial theory and valuation, and financial econometrics.

Specialisation studies (36 ECTS credits) include a special course on real options and managerial decision-making and the Master´s thesis.

Minor studies (25 ECTS credits) include studies on business analytics based on modern tools and hands-on practice on using the tools in real-world business problems.

English Language Requirements

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).     The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Academic Requirements

You are eligible to apply to the programme with one the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration, completed in a Finnish university
  • Bachelor of Business Administration, completed in a Finnish University of Applied Sciences, tradenomi (AMK)
  • Lower university degree in the field of Economics/Business Administration, completed in a country other than Finland
    • Provided that the degree gives a qualification for equivalent academic studies in the country in question.
    • The degree must correspond to the Finnish lower university degree (Bachelor's Degree) in Business Administration in the extent (180 ECTS credits) and duration (3-4 years of full-time studies).
