The aim of the programme is to provide in-depth knowledge in comparative and Swiss politics. A particular focus is also laid on the interplay between national political systems and the supranational system of the European Union, and on multilevel governance in the EU and Switzerland. Despite this specialisation we expect students to have or to acquire basic knowledge in other fields of political science (e.g. political sociology, political communication, and policy analysis). A particular feature of our programme is the opportunity to complete some courses (in French) at the University of Lausanne. A master thesis has to be written. It is presented and discussed in a colloquium for MA candidates. We put particular emphasis on theory-guided empirical research. Therefore, when entering the MA programme students should be well acquainted with the methods and techniques of social sciences research.
