The MSc in Management is a one-year programme taught in English, aimed at students who wish to gain in-depth knowledge of the analytical aspects of management. The goal of the programme is to create analytical thinkers while providing comprehensive knowledge of the core areas of business management.
The programme offers advanced analytical training according to the specialisation of each student, and allows students to develop an applied final project as their MSc thesis. It also includes the possibility of a curricular internship in a company, which is the perfect professional environment for students to develop their final project.
The programme benefits from the unique combination of the UPF Department of Economics and Business (among the 50 best centres for economics in the world by the Tilburg Economics Ranking) together with the practical knowledge of experienced business professionals.
The main objectives of the programme are:
The programme consists of four main courses: two of them deal with analytical tools (Statistics, Management Accounting and Finance) and the other two with management theory (Marketing and Organisational Behaviour). Furthermore, students can costumise their learning by choosing their own set of optional courses in topics such as Marketing, Operations, Strategic Decision Making and Entrepreneurship. One of the optional courses is a practical experience as an intern in a company which can last from 3 to 6 months.
Each student is assigned a tutor who provides them with guidance throughout the programme. Students carry out a Final Project during the last trimester, which consists in the identification and solution of a real managerial problem.
Teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. Many of the seminars are based on practical cases, and most work is carried out as part of a group. Classes will be very interactive and include continuous assessment.
The MSc in Management has a clear professional approach and is well suited to people who wish to move forward in sectors in which an analytical approach is crucial. Some professional opportunities are:
The Careers Service offers resources and training in skills that complement the academic training.
The MSc in Management also guarantees students a good basis for a career in academia, with the possibility of going on to the PhD programme in Economics, Finance and Management of the Pompeu Fabra University.
The degree consists of two core courses: in analytical tools (statistics and managerial accounting) and in management theory (marketing and organisational behaviour). Students can additionally choose a mix of courses from three specialisation tracks: Strategy, Operations management and Marketing.
These Brush-up Courses will provide the background to be able to easily follow classes in the first term. We strongly recommend taking these courses with the exception of students who have studied these topics recently. In that case, the student may choose not to attend one or several Brush-up Courses. Each student should discuss their choice with the Program Coordinator.
Note: Optional courses may change depending on the student demand and the availability of the faculty.
Once students have completed the programme, they will receive the official degree Máster universitario en Ciencias Empresariales (Master of Sciences in Management) from the Pompeu Fabra University.
Students will also receive the Master of Science in Management certificate, awarded by the Barcelona School of Management.
