The increasing economic importance of tourism led to a fast expansion of Tourism Economics over the last two decades. The present master combines this emerging field within Economics with a consolidated one: Regional Economics.
The Algarve in a natural laboratory for Tourism Economics and Regional Development. Hence, this Master aims not only to provide students with state of the arte knowledge on these fields but also to explore its practical applications.
The University of Algarve counts with a wide cadre of experts in the domains of Tourism Economics and Regional Development. This Master also benefits from the participation of world know scholars, such as:

Integrated in a Double Degree Programme, this Master allows students to access the Master in Tourism and Environmental Economics offered by the University of the Balearic Islands. Thus, students can also obtain the degree of Master in Tourism and Environmental Economics by spending a semester at the University of the Balearic Islands.
The Master lasts for 3 semesters and comprises a total of 90 ECTS. The courses, all taught in English, are offered during the first three quarters and cover 60 ECTS. The preparation of the dissertation takes place in the third semester and is associated with 30 ECTS. The Master includes five modules: Quantitative Methods and Economics Theory; Tourism Economics; Regional Development; Optional Courses; and Dissertation. The list of courses is shown below.

The Master Program is aimed at graduates in Economics or Business Administration. Graduates in other scientific domains, such as Tourism, can also apply. However, their admission may require attending some undergraduate courses in Economics.
All courses will be taught in English. Thus, a good English proficiency is required.
There are two Academic Merit Scholarships available covering the tuition fee (2,750).
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
