The Master ASI (Automatic control, Signal and Image) is one of the three masters of the master ARIA. It is a common Master of Ecole Centrale de Nantes, Ecole des Mines de Nantes, and Université de Nantes.
The master ASI contains two tracks for it's second year M2 :
* Control of Systems,
* Signal and Image.
The quality of this master has been recognized by the European Union by supporting the masters course "EMARO - European Master on Advanced Robotics" in the framework of the programme Erasmus Mundus.
The Master's ASI is designed to promote a high-quality educational offer for the european and international students. Students may take the master as a professional terminal degree, or join PhD programmes afterwards.
The programme of study lasts two academic years denoted by M1 and M2. The first year courses are given English, it also contains French Language course in order that the students can follow the scientific courses in French during the second year.
The programme of M1 is the same as that of Erasmus Mundus master emaro and of master ASI.
To apply for M1 students must hold a first university degree with 180 ECTS, after at least three years of university studies (at the level of bachelor of science).
Admission in M2 can be accepted for students who are fluent in reading, speaking and writing French and have a university degree with 240 ECTS after at least four years (at the level of M1).
The Master relies on the staff members and on the scientific and research facilities of the IRCCyN, "Institut de Recherche en Communication et CYbernétique de Nantes". In fact most of the lecturers of the Master courses and the supervisors of the Master thesis belong to the IRCCyN.
The IRCCyN is a common laboratory of the "Ecole Centrale de Nantes", the University of Nantes, the "Ecole de Mines de Nantes" and of the CNRS "Centre National de Recherche Scientifique". It is composed of about 250 persons, most of the researchers are well known on both national and international levels thanks to the quality of their research work.
First Year Programme
The programme is composed of two semesters, S1 (from October to February) and S2 (from February till June), each with 30 ECTS:
The structure of the first year is shown in Table 1. It consists of two semesters S1 (from September till the end of January) and S2 (from February till the end of June). The first semester starts with two weeks of intensive French language course. The contents of this year is the same as the first year of the Erasmus Mundus Masters course EMARO.
Table 1 : Structure of the first year.
First two weeks
* - Local language course*
September - 30 January
* - Interdisciplinary back-ground modules
* - Local language course*
Second semester March- End of June
* - Interdisciplinary back-ground modules
* Another language will be proposed , for students who master the French language.
First semester Courses
The student will select six modules (30 ECTS) from the following:
* French language (compulsory)
* Modeling and control of manipulators (compulsory)
* Control of linear multivariable systems
* Real-time systems
* Signal processing
* Neural networks for classification and identification
* Computer vision
Second semester courses
The student will select seven modules (30 ECTS) from the following:
* Group Project (compulsory)
* Mechanical design methods in robotics
* Robot programming methods
* Mobile robots
* Artificial intelligence
* Optimisation techniques
* Nonlinear control theory
* Human computer interaction
* Embedded systems
At the end of the first year, July and August, a summer internship is encouraged but not compulsory. It is an excellent way for the students to improve their French before the second academic year. ECN will sign an agreement with the company so that the student has proper insurance during the internship. ECN does not provide specific services to find internships: it is up to the student to so.
Programme M2 - ASI
The second year is composed of two semesters, S3 and S4 with 30 ECTS for each. The semester S3 contains the theoretical courses while S4 is devoted for research thesis.
The majority of courses are given in French, some courses could be given in English:
During the semester S3, the student has to follow 7 courses giving 30 credits ECTS :
* Three obligatory courses representing the common core of M2 (14 ECTS)
* Four optional obligatory courses with 16 ECTS to be chosen in ARSI tracks or in tracks from other Masters in Nantes (like SPIE).
The first year of the ARIA Master course is the M1. It is open to French and international students who already hold a university degree at the level of Bachelor of Science with 180 ECTS credits in the European system, after at least three years studies in a field related to the Master ARSI Majors such as: Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, System Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. The graduation must take place before 31 July 2014 for non European students and before 30 September 2014 for European students.
The applicants have to be fluent in English, both in writing and speaking. An Applicant whose native language is not English is required to pass a recognized international English test such as TOEFL (score 220 CBT, 550 PBT, 80 IBT), Cambridge Advanced English Test (score B or higher), IELTS (score 6.5 or higher), TOEIC (800) or other English equivalent test.
An applicant who carried out his study in English is eligible, passing a recognized test provides him more chance to be accepted (official confirmation letter is needed). The English test result must be sent before the deadline of application.
