The objective of the programme is to provide the students with such knowledge, problem solving skills and insight in mathematics that they are able to work professionally in different areas of mathematics (including teaching at primary or secondary school) or to use mathematical tools in the sectors of industry, information technology or finance. The programme also provides a good basis for PhD studies in mathematics.

A graduate of the programme:

  • has the deep and comprehensive knowledge of mathematics and its applications,
  • has the knowledge and understanding of the role of logical argumentation and deductive reasoning, including formal proofs,
  • has the ability of creating and testing mathematical conjectures,
  • has the ability of explaining and conveying mathematical subjects,
  • can build and use mathematical models,
  • can use advanced computer-aided methods,
  • is prepared to continue studies at the PhD level.

Academic Requirements

All candidates are required to submit the following documents:
  • application form printed from the individual OAS account and signed by the candidate,
  • photocopy of the higher education diploma (at least undergraduate), or other document of higher education graduation obtained abroad, certifying the holder's right to apply for second-cycle (graduate) programmes in the country of issue, considered to be equivalent to respective Polish higher education diploma of at least undergraduate programme (together with the original document available upon request), or when the candidate does not have one yet upon enrolment, certificate issued by the granting institution confirming completion of higher education final examination (diploma examination) and including information of holder's right to apply for graduate programmes in the country of issue, together with final examination grade, diploma dissertation grade and higher education diploma grade together with written declaration to submit the photocopy of the document (with the original document available upon request) by given deadline – under the pain of board denying admission,
  • two photographs (35 mm x 45 mm) taken without head covering, against light background (according to the guidelines for issuing identity cards),
  • photocopy of Polish maturity certificate or International Baccalaureate diploma (IB), or European Baccalaureate certificate (EB), or secondary school leaving certificate or other document obtained abroad entitling its holder to apply for admission to study programmes in higher education institutions in the Republic of Poland (together with the original document available upon request),
  • photocopy of both sides of identification card; in case of non-Polish citizens: photocopy of passport photograph page (together with the original document available upon request),
  • photocopy of diploma supplement (with the original document available upon request), or original official transcript, or when the candidate does not have one yet upon enrolment, candidate's written declaration to submit the photocopy of the document (together with the original document available upon request) by given deadline – under the pain of board denying admission,
  • certificate of grade average obtained within completed study programme, calculated in accordance with granting institution regulations and issued by the university candidate graduated from, including information about grading scale according to which the grade average was calculated – required if this information is not included in the supplement,
  • translation into Polish, certified by a sworn translator, of each submitted document issued in a language other than Polish.
Candidates holding a maturity certficate obtained abroad of Poland, other than International Baccalaureate diploma or European Baccalaureate certificate, excluding certificates obtained in member states of the UE, OECD, EFTA and certificates recognized on the basis of international agreements are required to submit additionally the following documents:
  • decision on recognition of the certificate or other document issued abroad, confirming its holder's right to apply for study programmes in higher education institutions in the Republic of Poland, issued by local education authority (kurator o´swiaty) for candidate's place of residence, or, if the candidate does not reside in Poland, by Malopolski Kurator O´swiaty, or a certificate of nostrification issued before 31 March 2015; or candidate's written declaration to deliver the decision or certificate by no later than the end of the first semester – under the pain of withdrawal from the university.
Candidates who hold maturity certificate obtained outside Poland are required to submit additionally the following documents:
  • certificates or other documents obtained outside of Poland, other than the IB diploma or EB certificate, are required to be authenticated with apostille or legalised.
Candidates who hold higher education diploma obtained outside Poland are required to submit additionally the following documents:
  • nostrification certificate issued by faculty board of a Polish higher education institution, or candidate's written declaration to nostrify the higher education diploma by the end of the first semester – under the pain of withdrawal from the university; this requirement does not apply to documents issued by higher education institutions functioning within higher education frameworks of: Member States of the European Union, or Member States of the OECD, or Member States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), or parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area, or countries with which Poland has signed agreements on mutual documents recognition,
  • higher education diploma obtained outside of Poland is required to be authenticated with apostille (if the country of issuance is a party to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents) or legalised.
Candidates who do not hold Polish citizenship are required to submit additionally the following documents:
  • photocopy of document (with the original document available upon request) that certifies candidate's knowledge of the Polish language, i.e. a certificate of completion of a one-year preparatory language course issued by one of the schools of Polish language appointed for this purpose by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, or a certificate issued by The National Commission for the Certification of Polish as a Foreign Language, or other document issued by the Jagiellonian University that confirms candidate's command of the Polish language to be sufficient to enrol in a programme carried out in Polish (does not apply to candidates who take part in the interview),
  • photocopy of document certifying candidate's right to undertake study programmes according to the rules applicable to Polish nationals – confirmation of meeting the conditions of Article 43 of the Law on Higher Education Act (together with the original document available upon request),
  • photocopy of document that certifies candidate's legal stay in the territory of Poland, i.e. visa or a temporary/permanent residence permit, or other document that allows for stay in the Republic of Poland (together with the original document available upon request), or enclose signed written declaration that you will submit this document by no later than 1 October 2015 – under the pain of withdrawal from the university,
  • photocopy of document that certifies candidate's possesion of health insurance or casualty insurance for the period of studying in Poland, or photocopy of the European Health Insurance Card (together with the original document available upon request), or a declaration of taking out the insurance in the National Health Fund (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) immediately upon beginning of the first semester, or enclose signed written declaration that you will submit this document by no later than 1 October 2015 – under the pain of withdrawal from the university,
  • photocopy of medical certificate confirming lack of health conditions disqualifying the candidate from undertaking study programme (together with the original document available upon request), or enclose signed written declaration that you will submit this document by no later than 1 October 2015 – under the pain of withdrawal from the university.
