It is also a platform for the exchange of ideas and interesting interpretation among students, scholars and researchers from around the world interested in democracy, leadership and EU institutions and policies. It helps to answer questions about the direction, dynamics and future of democracy in Europe and European integration. This innovative Governance, Leadership and Democracy Studies programme from the Jagiellonian University offers International Seminars to broaden the students' perspective on the topic in question. Students will choose from mandatory and elective courses. They will benefit from supervision at both Universities.

Student who graduate from this programme are qualified to work in diplomacy and international relations, regional, local and national governmental positions, non-governmental organisations, think-tanks, consultancy and public affairs, p rivate Companies and Business Associations, financial institutions and European Union Institutions (Council, Parliament, Commission and Support Services).

Students will both be able to start in Krakow and progress to Lisbon and vice-versa.

Diploma: The successful completion of the two-year double degree programme will lead to the award of two degrees: MA in the field of European Studies (EU Study specialization) from the Jagiellonian University and MA in Governance, Leadership and Democracy Studies from the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

Academic Requirements

  • All candidates must either hold (or expect to obtain) a BA degree from a recognised and accredited university or an equivalent first-cycle degree earned in countries where BA degrees are not offered. Candidates possessing an MA degree may also apply. A degree in a relevant subject area is preferred; however, all applicants who can demonstrate interest in European Studies are encouraged to apply.
  • Students whose first language is not English are required to prove their English language proficiency with a recognised certificate documenting command of the English language on a level specified by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This does not apply to English native speakers, graduates of study programmes where the language of instruction was English, and those who have obtained confirmation from their university unit stating that candidate's language proficiency is sufficient for undertaking studies in English. Funding

EU students will be granted an additional consortium waiver of 2.000 under the condition that they do not already have a scholarship that pays their full tuition.
The fee without the waiver is 8.000 with insurance, 7.100 without insurance for EU & EFTA students.
