Career opportunities:

Having completed the program in Mathematical Methods in Computer Science, a graduate will possess broad background knowledge in mathematics and informatics useful for work in international computing teams, especially ones where mathematical tools play an essential role.

He will be able to: construct, optimize and research the computational complexity of algorithms solving practical problems; construct and implement programs; service software packages used in engineering and statistical data processing; design and maintain databases. Through education in mathematics and IT skills, the postgraduate will be capable of interdisciplinary cooperation with professionals who use mathematics and informatics in their work and will be able to deepen his or her knowledge independently in response to rapidly changing demands.

Academic Requirements

A diploma of the completion of a higher education first degree (Bachelor) in Mathematics.

For MA studies (second cycle):

  • Bachelor's degree diploma (together with a supplement, if applicable) or another document of completion of studies abroad, which allow to start the second cycle studies in the country it was issued. Diploma should be legalized or given an apostille and translated into Polish language by sworn (certified) translator. Candidate should also provide a statement that his diploma allows him to take up the second cycle studies in the country it was issued – if such a statement is not already written on the diploma.
  • Document confirming competence in English language (for studies in English) or document confirming competence in Polish language (for studies in Polish).
  • Health certificate stating that there are no restrictions against taking up studies in a given field (General Practitioner checkup);
  • Document confirming the candidate’s identity;
  • Photo (format 45x35mm, in the left semi profile with a visible left ear, without any jewellery, bareheaded and without any dark glasses, with equal lighting on the face).
  • Candidates for the programs in English at the University of Silesia are required to submit a valid certificate confirming command of English language at least on level B2 according to the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR) - European system Reference for Languages: learning, teaching, assessment (CEFR)".
