Manufacturing engineering is one of the strongest areas of University West and in this one-year masters programme, you have the possibility to improve your CV, for a career in the manufacturing industry, global corporations, or for an academic career. The education offers both specialized technological knowledge as well as breadth within manucfacturing engineering, which is a necessety for leading positions in the industry.

A programme suitable for Mechanical engineering or Industrial engineering and management backgrounds

The masters programme gives an in-depth knowledge of manufacturing engineering, with strong industrial links. Regardless of whether you come from a background in mechanical engineering, or industrial engineering and management, if you fulfill the entry requirements, this programme is suitable. Students of this masters programme have access to one of the largest and most modern manufacturing labs in Sweden, Production Technology Center (PTC) in Trollhättan, featuring industrial robots and University West simulation laboratory.

Manufacturing engineering - creating value

Production means value-creation. This programme offers advanced knowledge in several production processes and in production systems that contributes to a competitive edge.

Work-Integrated Learning - WIL

The teaching is primarily academic, consisting of lectures, tutorials, group seminars, laboratory work and project assignments. The eductation has, however, a sound basis in the strong industrial research going on at PTC. This research is well integrated with the manufacturing industry.

International environment

The programme is open to foreign applicants and is adapted to the Bologna system for mobility within Europe. All teaching is done in English.


Production technology is one of the strongest areas of University West. In this one-year master's programme you will have the opportunity to boost your qualifications both for working in the manufacturing industry and for an academic career. The programme offers both detailed technological knowledge and broadening in the field of production, which are required for senior positions.
The One-year master's programme provides in-depth knowledge of production technology, with a strong link to industry. Manufacturing is all about creating added value. The programme aims at providing advanced knowledge of several production processes and of production systems that contribute to increased competitiveness. If you fulfil the admission requirements, you can apply for this programme irrespective of whether you have studied Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering and Management. Students on the master's programme have access to one of the country's largest and most modern manufacturing laboratories, the Production Technology Centre (PTC). This is equipped with industrial research facilities such as roboto assembly lines and the university's materials analysis laboratory.

Work-Integrated Learning - WIL
WIL is something you will benefit from as a consequence of the programme being strongly linked to research conducted at the PTC. Industrial research here is based entirely on integration with working life. Theory is linked to practice.


Degree of Bachelor of Science in Engineering, within Mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering and management, or equivalent. Additionly, the Bachelor degree must be comprised of a minimum of 15 ECTS in mathematics and include a proven basic knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, and basic statistics. Verified knowledge of English corresponding to the course English B in the Swedish Upper Secondary School or equivalent.
