Description
The EMFC-EI programme prepares participants for senior financial professional positions within the energy industry and for the challenges of managing an energy business in a dynamic and - in terms of regulatory requirements - complex internal context.
The EMFC-EI graduate gains profound insight into:
o Financial-economic characteristics of the energy value chain.
o Management and control instruments and best practices.
o State-of-the-art accounting principles, regulations and practices.
o Corporate finance, finance and treasury.
o Supply chain management & logistics
o Energy law, tax law and contractual arrangements.
o Ethics & compliance - including fraud detection and prevention - and laws & regulations.
o Sustainability in energy operations.
o Risk management and shareholder/ stakeholder value.
o Accounting information systems.
After completion of the programme the participant:
o Will be able to produce, analyze and combine financial information for high-level decision-making processes.
o Will have the knowledge and skills to effectively control the management of any organisation in the industry.
o Will be fully equipped to pro-actively initiate and supervise the implementation of sophisticated and state-of-the-art financial and management control systems.
The Executive Master of Finance & Control of Energy Industry graduates will receive the internationally acknowledged degree of Executive Master of Finance & Control of Energy Industry. Graduates will also have the option to enter for the Dutch Registered Controllers exam (RC).
Contents
The EMFC-EI programme bridges the gap between practice and theory. It benefits from a close, high-level cooperation between business and university. Teaching in the EMFC-EI programme is problem-based, using cases from the practice. The programme consists of six 2-week sessions over two years. The structure is fast-track (on-campus, off-campus), time between each session will be spent on reading and casework.
Six 2-week sessions In all, the EMFC-EI consists of twelve modules, referred to as "competence areas," and each 2-week session will cover at least two modules. The programme concludes with a thesis project in which the participant will be encouraged to integrate all acquired competences and skills. To support effective learning and minimise travel, an innovative electronic learning environment has been created. All teaching materials will be available on the internet and a discussion board will enable group discussions and information exchange.
The EMFC-EI programme is modular and designed to integrate academic and practical knowledge with corresponding energy business issues. The modules are centred around the following topics:

13. Master thesis
Location Sessions will take place at international locations and may include energy industry hubs such as Houston (USA), Doha (Qatar), Moscow (The Russian Federation) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Several EMFC-EI sessions will take place at `Het Kasteel´ (The Castle) in Groningen. Visiting energy hubs profoundly adds to the understanding of the global ways of the industry. Site visits will enhance the true appreciations of issues across the value chain.
Study load The EMFC-EI degree is earned on the basis of successful completion of the 24-month programme. In addition to 60 course days, a substantial load of private study is required. During the off-campus periods you will stay in contact with lecturers, thesis coaches and participants via the internet and e-mail, while working on assignments and your thesis project. The on-off campus modular structure of this Executive Master programme allows you to maintain your home base and professional job while working towards an internationally recognised degree.
Lecturers
The programme is aimed at a perfect balance between practical business experience and academic knowledge.
PwC provides lecturers with direct industry knowledge, while the University of Groningen has accredited the EMFC-EI and provides the lecturers focusing on the academic aspects. EDI implements the overall organisation of the programme and puts its network of industry experts to use and ensures quality during the whole programme.
Requirements
You have an academic background and you have been working for a multinational oil & gas company or in the energy industry for a minimum 5 years in a financial job. Typically, supporting employers will value you as a high potential.
The EMFC-EI is geared to other programmes. Should you have completed a post-master programme in finance and control (e.g. Chartered Controller Programme or Certified Public Accountant), you will be exempted from certain modules of the programme.
Work Experience
At least 5 year(s) of work experience are required.
