Our Master’s course in Therapeutic Sciences is aimed at academic occupational therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists and related professional groups (e.g. sports scientists or language remedial teachers). Students spend the two years of the vocational course acquiring an in-depth knowledge of the health sciences, knowledge management and research methods, as well as learning how to apply this knowledge in their own specialised disciplines.
The course qualifies therapists to work on research projects and provides a formal and contextual basis for a doctorate. Individual main subject areas prepare students for positions in the fields of teaching and clinical research or at management level.
Lectures, seminars, group work and practical research projects will equip you with sound knowledge of the themes and methods pertaining to the therapeutic sciences. You will learn how to systematically work with literature, formulate research topics and draft study designs. You will develop the corresponding tasks and fill them with practical content relevant to your specialised discipline.
As a result, you will broaden your knowledge and extend your capabilities not only on an interdisciplinary basis, but at the same time in a manner tailored to your own individual interests and the main subject areas of your occupational field. The examination of current developments in health economics, health policy and career politics will open up new perspectives for you that will enable you to react adequately to changing circumstances in the healthcare sector (demographic changes, scarcity of resources).

You will work on a joint, cross-discipline research project together with students from other fields of therapy. The results of the project are then presented to a large professional audience during a student symposium. Counselled and guided by experts, the students are responsible for realising every single phase of the project, from identifying a research topic to planning what data is to be collated and then evaluating that data, through to organising the event and presenting the research results, and culminating in their publication.
In consultation with the students, a visit is organised to a congress related to the special fields concerned as part of an excursion.
The third semester is devoted to specialised studies in two of three optional subjects. Parallel to this, students work on their own research project that is intended to serve as a preliminary study for the Master’s thesis.
This thesis is then completed in the fourth semester.

The prerequisite for attending our Master’s study courses is usually the successful completion of a vocational Bachelor course in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy, or a comparable degree with 210 ECTS.
Note: Applicants with a degree with 180 ECTS can acquire 30 ECTS by taking a pre-Master’s course. Please contact us so that we can personally discuss your case in depth.
