The International Master’s Degree Programme in Financial and Management Accounting (FMA) at University of Oulu is a two-year programme concentrating on the analysis of accounting information for the needs of a company’s internal decision-making as well as for outside investors. 

About

The programme will give you relevant expertise and core knowledge towards the adaption of an international financial reporting system, and help develop skills matching the growing need for management control and accounting of internationally operating firms.

The MS in Financial and Management Accounting programme delivered at University of Oulu is part of several international Master’s programmes at Oulu Business School. Studying at OBS has become a genuinely multicultural experience, as international degree students, exchange students from all over the world, and of course Finnish students are attending the courses of the FMA programme. Students applying for the programme must possess an applicable B.Sc. degree in one of the following fields of study: business studies, social sciences, education, natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering.

The 2-year programme has two specialization options:

  •  Financial Accounting
  •  Management Accounting

After the first semester, each student decides to pursue with a focus on courses of one of the two specializations.

Financial Accounting explores profit and loss accounting, usage of financial statement data in decision-making, incentive compensation of top management, auditing, and firm valuation.

Management Accounting focuses on cost accounting, budgeting, capital investment planning, and management control.

Optional modules make it possible to widen your expertise into:

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 6.5

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The minimum IELTS score requirement refers to which Overall Band Score you received, which is your combined average score. Read more about IELTS.

  • Minimum required score (Grade C): 180

    The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

    Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.

  • Minimum required score: 580

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).   • Minimum required score: 92

    The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Academic Requirements

  • An appropriate bachelor's, or higher level degree (or equivalent) completed in a university is required of applicants. In addition, students with a BBA degree (tradenomi) from a Finnish polytechnic institute (ammattikorkeakoulu) are eligible.
  • A successful applicant has obtained their first academic degree, normally a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, from an institution of higher education. As a rule, the Bachelor’s degree is the lower academic degree. This degree should be equivalent of at least three years of full-time studies (180 ECTS).
  • All applicants are required to prove a high level of proficiency in English language. All programmes ask the applicant to demonstrate their level of English language
