To strengthen the work-life relevance and students’ professional development, the programme from University of Oulu includes a mandatory internship period. Programme Structure

Education and Globalisation is a full-time two-year international master's programme. The programme emphasises North-South-East-West dialogue and includes studies in international education, interculturalism, globalisation and their effects on various sectors of education.

Students major in Educational Sciences. The programme includes a minor subject (Education in Transition) for those who have not studied Education in their previous studies. Other relevant minors can be chosen if student has studied education in previous studies.

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score:

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading). Academic Requirements

Programme Specific Academic Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent higher education degree; preference will be given to the applicants with a background in education/social sciences.

  • Applicants with a background in other academic fields (e.g. humanities, languages, international relations, economics etc.) are eligible to apply as well.
  • Applicants with a Bachelor's degree from a Finnish Polytechnic (university of applied sciences) are eligible to apply as well.

English language proficiency

  • All teaching will be in English and therefore English language proficiency is required of all students.
  • The level of English language will be assessed during the interview in the second stage of the student selection.
