Description
Masters by Research programmes provide an opportunity for independent study within a structured academic environment. The research programme which is agreed with the supervisor will be designed to provide an effective training in research methods within the discipline area selected.
MA/MSc by Research students enrol for 1 year full time or 2 years part time and are expected to submit for programme approval within one month of enrolment.
Programme approval involves completion of a research proposal and submission of this to the Research Institute who will arrange a review process.
Assessment is by submission of a thesis followed by a presentation and oral examination.
Requirements
Applicants for a research degree should have a good honours degree (2:1 or above) or masters degree or equivalent in the relevant subject area.
For MSc/MA by Research a good honours degree is required in the appropriate subject.
English Language Entry Requirement- Research Graduate School
All International/Overseas Research Degree Applicants for whom English is not their first language* are required to have an English Language qualification with IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or equivalent:
IELTS
* with a score of 6.0 or more.
* The individual tests within IELTS must have a score of no less than 5.5
TOEFL
* with a score of 87 or more.
* Individual scores as follows: Listening 21 (or above) Reading 22 (or above)
* Speaking - 23 (or above) Writing - 21 (or above)
Please note that the test must have been taken no more than 2 years prior to application.
