Hands-on leadership and the latest management expertise

The MBA Energy Management at WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) is truly international, reflecting the realities of the energy business. It comprises a diverse mix of core business principles, but with the unique specialization on energy management.

You will learn key global energy issues faced by policy makers and businesses across the globe and you will develop the tools to handle these issues. Your specialist understanding of the energy market will help you establish sustainable energy models and develop a responsible strategy within your organization.

Your international residency

Four out of five residencies take place in Vienna and one residency takes place in one of the key areas of the global energy business (e.g. USA, Arabian Gulf, Brazil etc.). This residency is designed to not only cover specific topics during the various modules but also provide insights into leading energy companies and unique projects, e.g. Saudi Aramco,Shell Headquarters (Houston), Silicon Valley Power, Halliburton, Clean Power Capital, e-meter (subsidary of Siemens AG), Bidgely, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, MASDAR.

The MBA Energy Management curriculum extends well beyond the walls of the classroom. In the course of program, you will complete an international residency, working with international faculty members and practitioners. The international residency links theoretical input to practical examples in an international context. Besides attending different classes and distinguished guest speaker presentations, students visit leading companies.

Company visits

In addition to classes abroad, you will get the opportunity to meet senior executives of leading national and international corporations. Here, you will have the chance to ask questions and listen to their views on the most current issues facing the global energy markets.

You will be exposed to different ways of working, secure new contacts and gain a global awareness of operating in international markets. You also might have the chance to visit energy plants, nuclear power plants, alternative energy plants and hydro plants to get a first-hand lesson in energy management.

English Language Requirements

You only need to take one of these language tests:

  • Minimum required score: 7

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The minimum IELTS score requirement refers to which Overall Band Score you received, which is your combined average score. Read more about IELTS.

  • Minimum required score (Grade B2): 160

    The CAE test – or the Cambridge Advanced English – is an exam for applicants who wish to get a Certificate in Advanced English. To receive the Advanced certificate, test-takers must score between 142 and 210 on the Cambridge English: Advanced test. Read more about CAE.

    Note: degree programmes and applications may require a more specific minimum score for admission.

  • Minimum required score: 600

    The TOEFL – or Test OF English as a Foreign Language – offers a paper-based test (PBT). The final, overall PBT score ranges between 310 and 677, and is based on an average taken from the three test components (listening, structure, and reading).   • Minimum required score: 100

    The TOEFL – or Test Of English as a Foreign Language – offers an internet-based test (iBT). The final, overall iBT score ranges between 0 and 120, and includes a scaled average from the four components (reading, listening, speaking, and writing). Read more about TOEFL (iBT).

Application requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree (equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher)
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English

Each MBA participant is expected to have a personal computer and be familiar with MS Office software.
