Description

These part-time modular programmes enable health care professionals to obtain an MEd/Postgraduate Diploma/Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Education.

Applicants may choose a combination of modules to meet their individual teaching responsibilities or professional requirements.

The modular structure and variety of learning environments provides a flexible, coherent and professionally relevant programme of preparation for all health care professionals.

Nurses, midwives and specialist community practitioners intending to teach in either a practice setting or in a college of nursing and midwifery will have a qualification which fulfils the NMC standards statement for preparation of teachers of nurses and midwives.

Advanced standing for prior qualifications and experience and credit for work based learning are integral features of the programme.

Contents

The programme is offered on a part-time basis and is modular in structure.

The core modules are:

* Assessment and Evaluation of Learning (20 credits)
* Learning and Assessment in Professional Education (20 credits)
* Professional Education (Theory and Practice) (20 credits)
* Curriculum Design and Development (20 credits)
* Leading and Developing Professional Education (20 credits)

The Research module consists of a research proposal which MEd students will normally use as the foundation for their Dissertation (60 credits)

Students may exit with a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Education if they complete three core modules (60 credits).

These modules are:

* Assessment and Evaluation of Learning (20 credits)
* Learning and Assessment in Professional Education (20 credits)
* Professional Education (Theory and Practice) (20 credits)

Students may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Education if they complete the five core modules (100 credits) and one of the optional modules (20 credits) from the programme (total - 120 credits).

Optional modules can be chosen from the either the Faculty of Health and Social Care or from the wider University curriculum.

Optional modules include Work Based Learning.

Students may exit with a MEd in Professional Education if they complete the six core modules (120 credits) and a dissertation (60 credits) from the programme (total -180 credits).

Assessment

Students will be exposed to a variety of assessment methods designed to ensure that the content, outcomes and level of the modules are measured in a fair and transparent manner. Examples include assignments, seminars, presentations and portfolios.

Requirements

* An entry on an appropriate professional register
* Previous study at first degree level
* Professional educational role or teaching qualification role within own area of professional practice

CAE score: 60(Grade A)
