The DHSci Professional Doctorate enables professionals from a range of disciplines to focus on a piece of in-depth research of direct relevance to their professional practice and is equivalent to a traditional PhD.
The taught component of the programme provides a structured framework of proven research training alongside the research dissertation.
During the course, you will work in collaboration with an experienced supervisor during the first two years and then a second supervisor once you have identified your research proposal (towards the end of the second year for part-time students).
The aim of this highly regarded and prestigious doctoral programme is to produce healthcare practitioners able to undertake high-quality research which will contribute to the theoretical and knowledge base of healthcare and support ongoing professional learning and development.

Course Content

During the initial taught component of the course, you will take the following core modules:
o Quantitative Research Methods
o Philosophy of Social Science
o Practice Improvement
o Qualitative Research Methods
o Professional Research Practice
In addition, you will accumulate 20 credits from generic research training courses offered through the University´s Graduate School Research Training Programme. These generic courses will be selected in consultation with your supervisors and should be in keeping with your research topic.
Please note that all module details are subject to change.
Throughout the programme, you will work on your 50,000- to 60,000-word dissertation.
Course Structure
The Doctor of Health Science (DHSci) is delivered over two to three years on a full-time basis or over four to five years, part-time.
The course is split across core subject-specific research modules and generic research training, against which you will complete a 50,000- to 60,000-word dissertation.
During the course, you will work in collaboration with an experienced supervisor during the first two years and then a second supervisor once you have identified your research proposal (towards the end of the second year for part-time students).
In addition to individual supervision, your work will also be supported through workshops and tutorials.
