Description
Ten taught modules (100 credits) are chosen. These will mostly be transport modules but you may also be permitted to choose modules from other subject areas. You must also undertake a research project written up as a dissertation (80 credits).
Modules include: quantitative methods; transport policy in practice, intelligent transport systems and e-services; transport modelling; road safety; characteristics of public transport systems; economic and environmental appraisal of transport activities; design of transport infrastructure; and railway management economics and practice. Teaching methods include: formal lectures; tutorials; seminars; open learning; group projects; computing workshops; laboratory sessions; fieldwork and site visits.
The programme includes a study tour to Europe to examine the different approaches to transport management in other countries, to see the operation of various public transport systems and to study the principles behind advanced transport planning software.

Requirements
Normally, for the MSc, a minimum of a second-class (2.2) Honours degree in a relevant discipline or an international equivalent. Candidates for the Diploma will be considered on a case-by-case basis and relevant experience may be considered. Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or 577 (paper-based), or equivalent.

Accreditation
This degree programme is recognised by the Joint Board of Moderators (ICE, IStructE, CIHT, IHE) as meeting requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
