Our new Experimental Architecture MSc is based on visionary architectural practice that deals with global 21st century challenges, preparing you for a rapidly evolving professional environment.



Architecture is an evolving profession that is being shaped by global challenges, such as rapidly rising populations and emerging technologies. This forward-focussed course engages architectural agendas whilst providing opportunities for you to develop your intellectual and practical skills in this changing world.

Our approach is grounded in experimental design-led methodology. You will work with new types of materials, methods and technologies that create the context for social, political, economic and cultural reflection.

Through our course you will be exposed to some of the most important thinkers and practitioners at the cutting-edge of architectural practice and research. You will be encouraged to challenge architectural practice and produce provocative and visionary architectural design work that is also grounded and rigorous.

A 2:1 honours degree, or equivalent, in a design-related discipline.

Students from a computing related discipline will be considered. You will need to submit a portfolio to show us your design skills.

Those with lower or non-standard qualification will also be considered on an individual basis. You will need to show:
  • a high level of design ability
  • relevant knowledge from professional experience in a design related profession
International students

If your first language is not English you need an overall IELTS score of 6.5.

Admission to UK universities often requires that students have completed a recognized Bachelor's degree. International students should consider taking a Pre-Master to gain access to UK universities when:

  • You are considered ineligible for admission
  • You need to improve your academic, study, research or language skills
