What better place to study than THE Festival City? The Edinburgh International Festival, the jewel in the nations artistic crown; the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the worlds largest arts festival, the Edinburgh International Book Festival, the largest celebration of the written word in the world; the International Film Festival, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Edinburgh International Science Festival, the Jazz and Blues Festival plus the national companies and the abundance of innovative theatre and dance companies are all waiting to be explored. As a postgraduate student, the opportunities to gain invaluable experience working directly with these companies, in a range of placements, are plentiful.

QMU offers two awards focusing on cultural management:
- MA Arts and Cultural Management
- MA Festival Management

Each award focuses on different aspects of arts and cultural management, which is reflected in the combination of modules within each award. The courses are developed in co-operation with key national cultural agencies and other bodies with a strategic interest in the development of the arts and cultural sectors across Scotland and there are strong practical links between the cultural management programme and many local and national organisations in the cultural industry sector.

QMU has close links with the industry in Scotland and across the UK and much of the teaching is undertaken by external, industry recognised professionals with many years of experience at their fingertips.

The Arts & Cultural Management course will stimulate your understanding and develop your knowledge of contemporary issues affecting the development of arts and cultural management and their relevance to daily practice.

The Festivals Management course will provide you with knowledge of the current issues in the production of festivals. On completion you will be able to demonstrate an ability to analyse and understand issues as well as implement the policies underlying the production, programming and management of festivals.

Postgraduate study opens up a multitude of career opportunities as well as facilitating CPD for those already employed within the cultural industries or the performing arts. Career opportunities include company and theatre management, cultural advisory positions within Government, artistic directorships, producing, teaching, fundraising, marketing and public relations, the leisure industry, the screen industries and all professions requiring skills in communication and management, as well as future PhD study.
