Geotechnics and hydraulics deal with all of what are known as "difficult foundations", i.e. with buildings and structures that are erected on special foundations. This includes, for example, tunnels, dams, river power stations, dikes or embankments. During the four semesters of the master´s programme in Civil Engineering Geotechnics and Hydraulics, students consolidate the knowledge acquired in the previous bachelor´s programme and expand it by special competences in the areas of foundation engineering, rock engineering, tunnel engineering, hydraulic engineering, and water management.

Working as a civil engineer

Civil engineers are actively involved in shaping the future. They plan and take care of the entire structural infrastructure of our society. Accordingly there is a broad spectrum of professional possibilities. It ranges form working in planning agencies and in public administration, research and teaching at universities, universities of applied sciences and secondary technical schools, to self-employed work as civil engineers. In addition, they carry out management tasks in constructional, economic and ecological areas, either for international building firms or authorities. All-rounders in civil engineering are highly sought after, since there is never a lack of construction work!
