The Department of Teaching & Learning holds as its central mission the preparation and development of educators at all levels. Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, graduates will be able to:

  • Formulate performance objectives to guide instruction, utilize cognitive, affective and psychomotor taxonomies, and prepare a task analysis on a performance objective.
  • Develop strategies for diagnosing student skills in order to individualize instruction to meet students' learning styles.
  • Become more proficient in the artistic application of the tools that are at the teacher’s disposal, including classrooms, laboratory/shops, CTSO’s and worksite learning placements, to cause learning to occur.
  • Gain the ability to successfully translate theory into practice in the classroom environment.
  • Distinguish between the several basic types of work experience programs that use the world of work as an educational experience.
  • Identify and explain the chief components/characteristics of cooperative education.
  • Provide an overview of some major historical events in the development of our current career and technical/workforce education programs.

Programme Structure

The Department offers a M.Ed. in 17 areas of concentration as well as a M.S. in 13 of those areas. The master's degree consists of required core courses coupled with courses specifically related to the area of concentration. A culminating experience or thesis concludes the degree and provides evidence of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions gained while in the program.

Academic Requirements

Upload a Personal Professional Goals Statement document. Explicitly include in the statement your reason(s) for pursuing a master's degree, proposed M.Ed or M.S. concentration, names and contact information for two professional references, and, if applicable, will you be part of a cohort group, e.g., Teach for America (TFA) or the Alternate Route to Licensure Program (ARL) for initial teacher licensure.
