Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is one of the largest state universities in Lithuania, and it has a leading position in Lithuanian technical and engineering education, and research. Studies are organized in three cycles: undergraduate (BSc), graduate (MSc) and postgraduate (PhD) studies. VGTU has earned its reputation as a leading university by integrating innovative approaches into a technical foundation.
Approximately 11,000 students are currently studying at VGTU in 2015. Scientific research and experimental development is performed by 14 institutes, 2 research centres and 33 research laboratories. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University aims to foster highly qualified, creative and socially active specialists, who would be able to successfully adapt to both European and foreign education and labour markets.
VGTU is proud of its Civil Engineering Research Centre, the most modern centre of its type in Eastern Europe, as well as the Mobile Applications Laboratory, which is the biggest one in Lithuania. The VGTU campus is strategically located in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The campus and dormitories are tucked into a green forest, providing students with a tranquil place to live, study and participate in the vibrant student life. The majority of VGTU buildings are located on this campus; however, the faculties of Architecture, Mechanics and Electronics are in downtown Vilnius which can be easily reached by public transportation in approximately thirty minutes. The campus has a modern library as well as an integrated reading room, open 24 hours a day and offering students an access to study materials, study space, computers, and the internet. The dormitories are conveniently located next to campus allowing students a three-minute walk to the universities central building. VGTU encourages students to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Students can take advantage of the recently opened sports centre or enjoy the natural surroundings on campus, which offer and ideal location for outdoor activities. There are 3 canteens on campus for students to have lunch or take a break. VGTU is committed to ensure that campus is an ideal place for studies, research and living.
VGTU prepares students for success in both their professional and personal lives. The University offers a wide range of activities to ensure a vibrant student experience. These activity groups include technical creativity and innovation center, startup incubator, entrepreneurship center, sports clubs and tourism club. The arts also thrive in this setting with extracurricular options such as chorus, theater, and dance. New members are welcomed into the groups each fall, supporting their essential role in the dynamic University community. In Lithuania students can enjoy all advantages of the active style of life. You'll be in the very center of the main cultural events, exhibitions organized all over the year, meet lots of young people studying in higher education institutions of the country. VGTU also encourages students to take part in Student Representative Body. Students have an important voice and this organization allows them to be heard. The members of Students Representative Body collaborate with national and European Student Unions as well as the Ministry of Education and Science, youth organizations and companies. The established dialogue with other institutions adds to the overall improvement of students' leadership, communication, networking and management skills.
