The SAIS Bologna Center is the European campus of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Located in Bologna, Italy, it offers master's programs in International Relations and International Economics.



For seven decades, students have distinguished themselves by pursuing academic excellence in international relations. The school was established in Washington, D.C., in 1943, opened its campus in Bologna, Italy, in 1955 and in 1986 initiated one of the first Western university programs in the People’s Republic of China in Nanjing.

We organize more than 10 global treks annually. We also arrange site visits to local employers with a strong alumni base. These visits often include career panels that provide background on the variety of positions available, special topic presentations by senior alumni and recruiting presentations by human resources staff.

Student services

The Hopkins-Nanjing Center hosts modern, first-rate facilities. In addition to the on-site library, classrooms and residence hall, there spaces for students to study, hang out, exercise and play music. All facilities are heated and air-conditioned, and wireless internet access is provided throughout the HNC. In addition to HNC facilities, students can also use the facilities located on Nanjing University’s campuses.

Library services

  • The Robert H. Evans Library occupies a wing of the building and seats more than 115 in its large study rooms. The library contains a specialized collection of more than 85,000 volumes – one of continental Europe's richest English-language collections on international relations.
  • The Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese houses approximately 120,000 volumes and 400 periodicals in English and Chinese
