The University of Luxembourg, founded in 2003, is a multilingual, internationally oriented research university. It offers a very special framework to students and researchers alike, thanks to the proximity of the institutions of the European Union, the Luxembourg financial centre and the attractive national job market, but also thanks to the outstanding multilingual situation of the Grand Duchy.

The multicultural flair of the country is an experience lived each day on campus. Students come from 95 different countries, teachers from 18. Furthermore, there are exchange agreements with over 50 universities around the world. Whether it be English-French or German-French, many degree programmes are bilingual. Several Master degrees taught exclusively in English are also on offer.

The 5,000 students may choose between degrees to be obtained from:

• the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication,
• the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance,
• the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education.

Research is focused on themes such as:

• International finance,
• Secure and reliable ICT systems and services,
• systems biomedicine,
• European law and business law,
• education and learning in a multilingual environment.

International research teams and some 360 postgraduates work within the faculties themselves, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University.

About 650 financial experts, jurists from the European Court of Justice and other practitioners assist the academic staff of 180 professors and senior lecturers. Endowment chairs sponsored by TDK, the satellite operator SES Astra, the steel producer ArcelorMittal or Deutsche Bank are testimony to the close connections with the economic world.

Another typically Luxembourgish aspect of campus life resides in the latter's personal atmosphere, where small is beautiful and lecturers can give individual help. Voilà!

Accomodation: The University of Luxembourg has residences in different areas of the City of Luxembourg , of Esch-sur-Alzette and of Mondercange that offers residents best housing, and working conditions as well as a multicultural environment, to improve the quality of their life in our country and help them complete their studies successfully.
Who can apply online for housing?
* The students of the University of Luxembourg (Bachelor-, Master students, Phd);
* The exchange students who wish to spend one or two semesters in our institution under an Erasmus exchange programme or an inter-university agreement .

Student life

With the beginning of the academic year 2010/2011, the University of Luxembourg has approximately 5,000 studentsoriginating from roughly 95 countries and 171 lecturers originating from 20 countries. About six years after the foundation, the winter semester 2010/2011 saw a growth of about five percent more students than the previous year.

The enrolment fees are generally 200 euros per semester. Enrolment for the winter semester is open from July to September and for the summer semester from January to February.

The rule is that all students registered in the University of Luxembourg are entitled to take a student job, irrespective of their nationality; this authorisation is nonetheless subject to certain conditions. Students who are nationals of a non-EU Member State must have a work permit.
