Yasar University is an English-medium university located in the heart of the city of Izmir on the Aegean Coast of Turkey. The Universitys modern campus is purpose-built and accessible to students 24-hours a day. It offers extensive IT, library and sports facilities, as well as a high-tech Media Centre and Cambridge exams centre. The modern halls of residence are located within a few minutes walk of the campus.
The Sports Centre facilities offer a range of activities such as fitness centre, gymnasium, dance studio, tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts. Programmes sponsored by the Sports Centre include club sports, fitness training, intramural and ladder tournaments, instructional programmes and seminars. Health Services are available for students and staff within the University. For emergencies there is a resident nurse in the centre to take care of the students and employees basic health services (e.g. administering medicines, vaccines, dressing wounds).
The Electronic Information and Documentation Centre was established to support the Universitys education and research programmes at a national and international level. Students have access to reference sources, audio-visual materials, journals and newspapers, classified according to the Library of Congress Classification System. In addition, books and articles from local and international universities are provided upon request. Wireless Internet connection is also available. These services are provided free of charge.Yasar University is home to a state-of-the-art media centre and holds the title of being the first university in Turkey where there are TV and radio studios with a High Definition Broadcasting System. The Media Centre develops and applies an integrated communication strategy which also incorporates developing relations with the media.
The University also offers a full range of student clubs and local social responsibility projects. Monthly concerts, including those of the Universitys own Chamber Orchestra, as well as academic conferences and exhibitions, are a regular feature of campus life.
The activities represent a focal point for students and staff to interact in a creative and social atmosphere, which strengthens the relationships and the interactions within the university community. Izmir also has numerous historical and archaeological sites which showcase the enduring culture of the region. Izmir has a bevy of great restaurants and night clubs, but those looking for a slower pace of life can find it in one of the citys many coffee and tea shops while sampling nargile (a traditional Turkish water-pipe) and playing tavla (backgammon). Izmir also has a modern and extensive public transportation system with buses, metro, and ferryboats, which makes getting around the city easy; city buses and the metro run directly to the campus entrance.
