SibFU was founded in 2006 by merging four major Krasnoyarsk institutions of higher education: Krasnoyarsk State University established on the initiative of the famous soviet physicist Leonid V. Kirensky, Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Architecture and Construction, Krasnoyarsk State University of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold and the oldest Krasnoyarsk State Technical University existing since 1956.
Today Siberian Federal University (SibFU) has over 31,000 students enrolled in 151 educational programs in diverse professional fields. It is one of the largest universities in Siberia and one of the most actively developing universities in Russia.
The educational process at SibFU is based on the international standards. Bachelor and Master degree programmes have been implemented in compliance with the Bologna system. Certified holders of a Master’s degree can continue their education to get a PhD at SibFU. All Siberian Federal University degree programmes are state accredited, many of them have international accreditation.

Russian Language courses
Siberian Federal University offers on-campus accommodation. Most of the territory of SibFU is located in a forested area in the vicinity of the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center. Academic buildings and dormitories of the university are surrounded by natural evergreen forest lands.
Over the past five years six new dormitories of an apartment type for nearly 4,000 Russian and foreign students and postgraduate students have been built. Two buildings are located in the new dormitory complex on the right bank of the Yenisei. Two and three bedroom apartments are equipped with everything that is necessary for a comfortable life: beds, wardrobes, desks, kitchen furniture, home appliances.
SibFU libraryis a public library with an extensive collection for learning. Students and teaching staff have access to a variety of databases, including Russian Science Citation Index (RISC), Science Citation Scopus, Web of Science, etc. The library offers great study areas including computer classes where students can arrange group meetings or study on their own.
SibFU has wireless networking in academic buildings and dormitories. There are freely available computer classes in the University's Library, however students require a University account to login to on-campus wireless network and library facilities.
Siberian people have always been famous for their excellent health. This is mostly due to large forest expanses, clean water and fresh air. A considerable part of the campus is located in the ecological part of the city comfortable for living, however there is also a health center and SibFU Student sanatorium.
The university campus in Krasnoyarsk includes 29 dormitories, 24 study buildings, a building accommodating the library and the university administration offices.
Krasnoyarsk has been nominated as the host city for the Winter Universiade in 2019. The Universiade Village will be located at the University campus which is favourably close to the main winter sports venue Academy of Winter Spots.
The SibFU sports infrastructure includes 3 fitness centers, 2 sports complexes equipped with swimming pool, 3 stadiums and football pitch with artificial turf, 3 ski bases, 13 sports halls, 4 stadiums, rock exercise facilities, as well as 10 sports rooms in the residence halls.
International students can take part in one of creative teams of the University, such as a bard music club, vocal studios, a rock club, theater groups and dance groups.
Winter sports are very popular among SibFU students, there are biathlon, cross country skiing, snowboarding an ski orienteering clubs. Moreover, Krasnoyarsk State Nature Reserve "Stolby" gives a great opportunity for climbing and hiking, hence international students can join a climbing club, a sport tourism club or explore Siberian natural monuments by their own. There are also a variety of team sports, athletics, weightlifting and combat sports clubs.
