Founded in 1986 as part of an initiative conceived and financed by the Cities of Florence and Prato and fashion-sector trade associations, and the collaboration of the Fashion Institute of Technology from the State University of New York, Polimoda offers students impeccable professional training through highly-specialized working and research methodology.

Polimoda training nurtures managerial professionals such as Brand and Communication Managers and Buyers, as well as a professional team on the creative side of the business including Art/Creative Directors, Fashion Designers, Fashion Illustrators, Fashion Stylists, Footwear & Accessories Designers etc.
The Internship and Career Office sets up internships (when courses require it) for all Polimoda students. It also promotes the office activities in close collaboration with companies in the field and promotes meetings with students and companies in order to make internship selections.

The Polimoda Library – Documentation Centre "Matteo Lanzoni" contains the most important international collection of monographs, periodicals, videos, look books, and antique, rare and precious materials for creative artists. It contains a book collection covering the complete range of fashion in its diverse aspects.
Villa Favard, in the heart of Florence, and the new Design Lab in Scandicci: located in the centre or a few minutes away from the city, these locations host modern didactic classrooms and technical labs for pattern-making, stylistics, knitwear and footwear prototyping, equipped with the most renowned industrial instruments.
The Design Lab hosts many classrooms where patternmaking, fashion design and sewing classes are held and it is truly the “creative” facility of Polimoda, always bustling with activity and full of fabrics, colors, mannequins and professional machinery: a real design lab!
